Early 20th Century China
The early 20th century saw a great blossoming in creativity. Continuing the trend from the late 1900s, Art Nouveau took hold: mass produced items created with an arts and craft aesthetic saw buildings, furniture, paintings and, of course, ceramics, adorned with sinuous, exaggerated curves and stylised flora and fauna. Emerging in the 1930s, Art Deco’s bold, rich geometric motifs and lavish ornamentation capture the desire for modernity that characterises the inter-war years.
